The updated rules would require water-wise practices not just during a drought or other water shortage, but on an ongoing basis. CSU proposed the changes to help achieve water-savings goals and preserve the community water supply for the future. If city council approves the new rules, they will go into effect January 1, 2020. According to Lisa Pace, Senior Water Conservation Specialist with Colorado Springs Utilities, “After educating our customers and developing water allocation plans throughout 2020, Utilities will begin education-based enforcement in 2021. Those customers who continue to waste water after receiving education and tools to assist them will be fined.” Read an overview of the proposed changes.
