NALP is working with multiple industry stakeholders on an urgent pesticide regulation related issue, and we need your help! Currently, the EPA is evaluating whether to further restrict pyrethroid use for professionals. As you know, inappropriate regulations can significantly impact your lives and livelihood, and we need you to voice your concerns and help the EPA better understand the important role that pyrethroids serve in your ability to provide your services and protect the public.

Updated Boulder County ordinance affects landscape companies Email

Yard wasteBoulder County recently updated their Hauler Ordinance and Licensing requirements. The updated ordinance (Commercial Waste Hauler Licensing Ordinance 2016-1) now requires any company that “collects, transports or disposes of discarded materials (garbage, recyclables, or compostables, construction and demolition waste, or landscaping materials) in Boulder County” to be licensed as a hauler. Haulers must also track and report their waste using the online software system provided by the County.

Weisburg Landscape MaintenanceWeisburg Landscape Maintenance in Colorado Springs, Colo., is celebrating not only its 16th year in business in 2016, but also its status as a top-nine NALP-member company with most certified staff by member category. This year, 11 staff members, including company president Jeff Weisburg and vice president Eric Moroski, are certified with a total of 19 specific certifications. Over the course of 12 years, 24 employees have held Landscape Industry Certified credentials. Two more are testing this year.

employees can inspect personnel filesHouse bill 16-1432, which was signed into law last June, takes effect January 1 in Colorado. The law concerns the rights of private sector employees to inspect their personnel files. Employers must allow current employees to view and receive a copy of their personnel file upon request at least once annually. Former employees may request such access one time after termination.

UPDATEThe House rules committee rejected by a 4-7 vote an amendment by Rep. Andy Harris and Jared Polis (D-CO) to include an H-2B returning worker amendment in the continuing resolution after the House Appropriations Chairman suggested that this issue is controversial and needs to be addressed in the Judiciary Committee, not an appropriations bill. Reps. Polis (D-CO), Slaughter (D-NY), Hastings (D-FL) and Newhouse (R-WA) voted in favor of the amendment. Several other members support the program but suggested that the CR is not the proper bill to address the H-2B program.
