Good afternoon, 

Today, Governor Polis signed a new executive order, which takes effect at midnight tonight and mandates that anyone in a public indoor space must wear a face covering. This order impacts the entire state, though some individual orders are already in place in Colorado municipalities and are more restrictive. For more information, please review the FAQ document and a one-page summary of the order, provided by the state.

ALCC will continue to monitor the situation and will seek guidance on the interpretation of the mandate to help landscape companies comply with the order. At this time, the consensus is that the order applies to public indoor spaces, so operations in your offices should strictly abide by the mandate. For workers outdoors, we recommend face coverings but don’t interpret that the order finds them mandatory outdoors. Of course, outdoor workers should continue to operate with social distancing on the job and follow current CDC and OSHA protocols. We will be sure to notify you if we learn more or understand that there will be increased requirements.

As we enter this next phase of the pandemic with more restrictions, the optics of our industry’s work will start to grow in its importance.

Violations of this statewide order can incur civil or criminal penalties under “trespassing” laws. Please be sure to check with the current rules in the municipalities where your crews work, as there may be further restrictions. In some cities, penalties for violating mask orders can incur up to $999 in fines, as is the case with the City and County of Denver.
