Sprinkler headColorado Springs Utilities (CSU) has established Water Wise Rules for outdoor water use in their service area. The rules are similar to those established by Denver Water and other Colorado utilities. The six key provisions of the rules are:
  1. You may water up to three days a week. You choose the days.
  2. May 1 to Oct. 15, run sprinklers before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m.
  3. Do not let water pool or flow across the ground.
  4. Repair leaking sprinkler systems within 10 days.
  5. Use a shut-off nozzle when washing vehicles and equipment with a hose.
  6. Only use water for cleaning outdoor surfaces, like driveways and sidewalks, to protect public health/safety.

"Beginning April 1, flexible programs will be available for those establishing new lawns or requiring adjustments to scheduling because of complex systems, smart controllers or sandy soils,” according to a statement on the CSU RE:Source blog. Learn more about water allocation plans at the CSU website.

The CSU website states that “these changes are expected to meet 10 percent of the efficiency goal and align us with other Front Range cities. Water-wise rules are considered foundational water practices in Colorado.”

Business customers can meet with CSU officers on May 1 to discuss the water ordinance and other topics that affect businesses and their community. The meeting will be held at 8:00 AM at Leon Young Service Center, Pikes Peak Room, at 1521 Hancock Expressway in Colorado Springs. Pre-registration is encouraged.
