“Every day kids come into class excited to see how their seeds are growing!” says Arvada West (A-West) High School teacher Rachel Miller. She was recruited to launch the first Ag-Ed program at the school, under which ALCC Landscape Career Pathways resides. This is her third year at A-West as the Ag-Ed teacher, but only the first year there’s been space in her classroom to grow plants. Her classroom the previous two years was the computer lab.

This week, the US Department of Labor and the Department of Homeland Security announced a final rule regarding the release of an additional 30,000 H-2B visas. The rule was posted to the Federal Register on May 8, 2019.
According to an announcement by Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin K. McAleenan, “These supplemental H-2B visas are available only to returning workers who received an H-2B visa, or were otherwise granted H-2B status, during one of the last three fiscal years (FY 2016, 2017, or 2018), and availability is restricted by prioritizing only those businesses who would suffer irreparable harm without the additional workers.”

Earlier this year, Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado (ALCC) announced their new Sustainable Landscape Management (SLM) initiative. It provides sustainable landscape management standards that protect and conserve water and reduce waste generation while maintaining the health of urban landscapes that consist of durable and mature plant material.

Three Colorado companies were named in Greenhouse Grower’s Top 100 Growers for 2019. The list comes from the 2019 growers survey, in which greenhouse businesses share information about their production and identify trends in the industry.
