Landscape Industry Certified Technicians should be aware of new rules regarding recertification. National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) recently posted an update to their online recertification center that increases the importance of submitting recertification information.

The new policy, effective May 1, 2018 appears on the NALP website:

The International Certification Council (ICC), the governing body of the certification program for the National Association of Landscape Professionals has an update on the rules that surround Landscape Industry Certified certificants who have credentials that are: Late or Lapsed.

For certificants who have not renewed and have a Good Through date of 12/31/2017, effective May 1, 2018, your credentials are considered 'Late'.

 - For Late certificants to reinstate your credentials you will:  Submit the 24-hours of continuing education and pay the reinstatement fee ($200.00).

For certificants who have not renewed and have a Good Through date of 12/31/2016 or less, effective May 1, 2018 your credentials are considered 'Lapsed'.

- For Lapsed certificants you will be required to: Re-enroll into the program, pay full program fees and retake the applicable examination.

Maintaining certification is fairly simple and is self-reported. Landscape Industry Certified professionals must earn 24 CEUs every two years. For Colorado certificants, participation in ProGreen EXPO or ALCC events qualifies for one hour of CEUs per hour of instruction. There are also online CEU sources, such as instructional videos or industry publications. Certified individuals can also volunteer as judges for hands-on testing for Landscape Industry Certification in June or August and earn CEUs.
