Pollinator Week 2016We’re in the middle of Pollinator Week 2016, an international celebration of the valuable ecosystem services provided by bees, birds, butterflies, bats and beetles. To support Pollinator Week efforts, ALCC has created several web pages of information for both landscape professionals and consumers to learn more about creating a healthy landscape for insects and animals that pollinate our plants.

If your clients are interested in supporting pollinators in their landscape, you can direct them to the ALCC web site for more information. The pages feature facts, videos, and links to research about bees and other pollinators. Readers can delve into the topics of bee health, attracting pollinators to the landscape, choosing pollinator-friendly plants.

The information is valuable year-round—not just during Pollinator Week. Use it as a reference when helping clients plan their landscape.

For professionals and consumers alike, Pollinator Partnership also offers a free BeeSmart app, available for both Apple and Android systems, that offers helpful suggestions for pollinator-friendly plants suitable to your ecoregion. Simply download the app, enter your ZIP code, and get customized information for your landscape.

It’s important that the public understands that the issues facing pollinators are important to everyone, and that the green industry is working to find ways to support pollinator health. The green industry is funding and conducting research and doing its part to educate people.
