Pesticide sprayColorado Senate Bill 189 (SB20-189), “Local Government Pesticide No Preemption,” was introduced March 2, 2020. It seeks to “authorize local governments to regulate pesticide use and application.”

Currently, pesticide use is regulated at the state level by the Colorado Department of Agriculture, which also issues licenses for pesticide applicators. If passed, SB20-189 would allow municipalities to enact additional restrictions on local pesticide use.

The bill will be read in front of the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee on Thursday, March 19. ALCC and GreenCO will attend this hearing and present testimony. Those interested in becoming involved in this and other advocacy on behalf of the green industry can contact John McMahon at 303 757-5611.

Read the bill.
