Becky Ditchfield and Patrick O'MearaPatrick O’Meara received International Society of Arboriculture Rocky Mountain Chapter’s Arborist of the Year Award. The award acknowledges the service of an individual who has made a substantial contribution to practical arboriculture in the Rocky Mountain Chapter.

As an arborist, O’Meara has worked hard to excel in his field by training with other arborists for the annual climbing contest and each year since he first entered, he has been successful in moving higher in the ranks. He frequently promotes the profession by speaking in his kids’ classrooms where he arrives in full gear and talks about his “cool job climbing trees every day.”

But judges were most impressed with his dedication to supporting fellow arborists. In particular, O’Meara helped a colleague return to work and regain skills and confidence after experiencing a tragic work-related death in his jobsite. After a period of mourning and recovery, the man needed to work again, and Patrick offered him an opportunity to work with him and re-enter the workforce through a supportive network of arborists.

O’Meara has also represented the green industry in segments on KUSA 9News coordinated by Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado where he shares tip on tree care. Other arborists have complimented him for raising awareness among consumers that they should “hire a pro” when their trees require pruning and related care.

Additionally, O’Meara donates his time and arborist skills to community organizations, either raising funds for groups like Boys & Girls Scouts of America or offering pro bono work for nonprofits like the children’s garden at a women’s shelter.
