Cheesman ParkIn the recent elections, Denver residents passed measure 2A, which increases Denver city sales tax in order to establish a fund to support repairs, maintenance, and improvements to city parks.

Denver was the only county on the Front Range without a fund dedicated to green spaces. It is expected that the 0.25% tax increase, which translates to about $3 per resident per month based on average spending, could result in $45M to repair, improve, and maintain city parks. There is currently a $127M backlog of repairs alone.

The money may also be used acquire more land for parks, open spaces, and trails. The goal is to have “a park in every neighborhood” so that all Denver residents will live within a 10-minute walk to a park.
