Getting ahead of water restrictions Email

As Colorado heats up, consumers are thinking about their outdoor spaces. As your landscape company fields calls from customers, it’s a perfect time to get ahead of the game and promote water conservation. It’s important to talk about the importance of using water responsibly—before regulations are proposed to cut it off completely.

Areas of Colorado have already declared a drought, and water restrictions are in place around the state, in places like Steamboat Springs, Manitou Springs, Aspen, Ridgeway, and Mesa County.* Landscape water use is often the first target when water is scarce, so employing responsible water practices should be part of your business plan. Educating clients about why they should follow these best management practices may pose a greater challenge when they set unrealistic expectations for a Colorado landscape.

The CSU study "The Hidden Value of Landscapes" has a wealth of information about the ROI of landscapes that you can share with consumers. Investing in water-wise landscape management can yield tremendous benefits to health, safety, and well-being—in addition to saving money in the long run. ALCC members can download a rack card [member login required] developed from the study, which can be shared with clients.

ALCC has additional consumer materials that offer water conservation tips, and resources are also available through GreenCO and the Colorado Water: Live Like You Love It campaign.
