Designing, Building & Maintaining Colorado's Landscape

Certification

What's a CLT?

CLT stands for Certified Landscape Technician. Certification is a hands-on testing program administered by 20 states and provinces that recognizes proficiency in the landscape workforce, upgrades the status of the landscape professional, and provides the public with a means of identifying qualified landscape professionals.

CLT logoALCC has joined forces with the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) to offer five CLT tests in Softscape Installation, Hardscape Installation, Turf Maintenance, Ornamental Maintenance and Irrigation. To become a Certified Landscape Technician, an applicant must pass a General Comprehension test, Core test and Practical (hands-on) Problems.

Successful completion of the Hardscape and/or Softscape Installation test demonstrates that an individual has the skills to take a landscape blueprint and implement the design in the field. Passing the Maintenance (Turf Maintenance and/or Ornamental Maintenance) test shows that a person has the skills to maintain a landscape project in a professional manner. Passing the Irrigation test demonstrates that a person has the skills to install and maintain an irrigation system and understands the fundamentals of water management.

If you're employed in the landscape industry you may want to learn more about the test.

CLT Seminars

Watch for notices about CLT training seminars before the test dates. These classes are useful for both CLT prep or basic staff training. Check the online Calendar of Events to see if ALCC has scheduled CLT seminars prior to your test.

Training Manual
The CLT Training Manuals are essential study guides for the tests. Written in clear and concise language, they also make excellent employee training manuals. Each of the three newly updated manuals - covering installation, maintenance, and irrigation - is available in English and Spanish. An order form for these manuals is posted at the ALCC Bookstore.

Sponsors
Sponsorship is a great way to achieve company recognition and help promote professionalism within the industry. Sponsors not only help to make ALCC programs possible, but they also identify their company as one that promotes excellence in the industry. Sponsors receive visibility via press releases and promotions in the ALCC News, Colorado Green magazine, and the ALCC website. Check out a list of previous sponsors. Contact Becky Garber at 303 757-5611 (bgarber@alcc.com) to see how you can sign up a sponsor for an upcoming CLT test or related event.
